Am I a candidate for breast reconstruction?
✅ You may be, if you're:¹
• Coping with your diagnosis
• Medically cleared for surgery
• Emotionally ready
• Aware of what reconstruction can and can’t do
When can I have the surgery after consultation with my surgeon?²
🕐 Right away: During your mastectomy (immediate)
⏳ Later on: After recovery from mastectomy or other treatments like chemo/radiation (delayed)
Things to consider¹
⚠️ A reconstructed breast won’t feel the same as the one it replaces
⚠️ There will always be visible incision lines on the breast
⚠️ Some techniques leave scars at the donor site (e.g. back, abdomen, buttocks)
🎗️ Breast reconstruction is a highly individualized procedure.¹ You should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone else's desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image.¹
