Am I a candidate for breast reconstruction? ​ ✅ You may be, if you're:¹ ​ • Coping with your diagnosis​ • Medically cleared for surgery​ • Emotionally ready​ • Aware of what reconstruction can and can’t do​ When can I have the surgery after consultation with my surgeon?² ​ 🕐 Right away: During your mastectomy (immediate)​ ⏳ Later on: After recovery from mastectomy or other treatments like chemo/radiation (delayed)​ Things to consider¹ ​ ⚠️ A reconstructed breast won’t feel the same as the one it replaces​ ⚠️ There will always be visible incision lines on the breast​ ⚠️ Some techniques leave scars at the donor site (e.g. back, abdomen, buttocks)​ ​ 🎗️ Breast reconstruction is a highly individualized procedure.¹ You should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone else's desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image.¹ ​ Let's discuss breast reconstruction options available to you. ​ ​ References: 1.
